Movement to block trans health care for the armed forces was defeated. The Senate wants to eliminate health care for trans folks. A woman who fought against trans protections in her state is now fighting to keep them in place. The woman who sued Planet Fitness in 2015 over a trans woman’s presence is still suing. Congress has other anti-trans bills it’s working on. Caitlyn Jenner may try to oppose them by running for the Senate. A trans woman author is running for the House. Love her or hate her, Caitlyn Jenner is a large figure in the trans world. Thanks to her celebrity status before transitioning she is possibly the most visible and influential trans figure who regularly gets media attention. While seeing a trans person being interviewed on television is encouraging in that it normalizes the presence of trans people to the general public, on the other hand, do we really want one person’s voice to drown out the voices of many other trans people? Today’s cartoon warns of that danger.

The GLAAD 2016 Media Awards, which recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBT people, were held last week in New York City and our own Christine Zee was on hand for the festivities. It’s an election year and in November the nation decides who will replace Barack Obama in the White House. There are also many congressional races up for grabs. Republicans want to put the Obama years behind them and get busy repealing everything he has done. Democrats want to elect someone who will maintain the progress and make greater headway on improving the country. Why Is That Funny?
Some of the groups participating in the Philadelphia Mummers Parade on New Year’s Day found making fun of Caitlyn Jenner to be funny. They make signs that had Bruce Jenner on a a Wheaties box on one side and a Froot Loops box with Caitlyn on the other side. TGF contributor Diane Hutchinson was not amused. Today she comments on why it’s not just good, clean fun.
Trans Lunacy or Just Media Lunacy?
Babs is a bit upset that a convicted traitor to the United States is getting her thoughts on trans matters featured in the media. Babs feels that Chelsea Manning is not the person who should be representing the trans community and she has a number of far better suited people who deserve recognition for all they have done on behalf of the community. Let the media print what they have to say.
