A judge granted a partial injunction of Idaho’s ban on gender-affirming care. Specifically, the judge has granted an injunction on the part which bans gender-affirming care in prisons. The Advocate has this story.

Thirty-one Republican lawmakers filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court, as they review the constitutionality of Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. In the brief, the legislators state that, “States have no business overruling the decisions of fit parents who make an informed medical choice for their children that is supported by their doctors.” This story comes from NBC News.

The American Bar Association has filed an amicus brief, challenging Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. “The right of patients to access treatment without arbitrary governmental interference is grounded in the common-law right of bodily integrity and self-determination, as well as liberty interests protected by the Fourteenth Amendment,” says the brief. Lisa Middleton, the former mayor of Palm Springs, California, is running for state assembly. If she is elected, she will be the first out transgender lawmaker in the history of the state. She is running against the incumbent, the first Republican Latina in the state legislature. She is profiled in the Los Angeles Times.

The state of Texas has quietly rolled out a policy of not updating birth certificates to change the gender markers of transgender people. They think that it will present a horrible roadblock to transgender people, and will cause some to reconsider transitioning, but in reality, it will serve to normalize people having birth certificates which don’t match their gender presentation, and thereby erode the usefulness of the sex listed as an identifying characteristic. Several transgender Texans tell Time magazine that they are worried by the state’s decision to not update the gender marker on their driver’s licenses.

Texas state Representative Shawn Thierry was elected as a Democrat from Houston, but voted with the Republicans on anti-transgender legislation. She lost her re-election primary earlier this year, after serving four terms in the state House. Ths week, she announced that she has become a Republican. The Advocate has this story.

A year after Missouri lawmakers passed legislation banning transgender athletes in girls’ sports, the state’s schools still do not have the means to enforce the law, except when an athlete admits to being transgender. This story comes from the Missouri Independent.

Several states have enhanced laws which allow election workers (and sometimes others) to challenge transgender people as they try to vote. The 19th reminds transgender voters that if they are challenged, they have the right to cast a provisional ballot. The article also talks of programs to get transgender people acceptable ID for voting.

Jayden Tkaczyk, a 16-year-old transgender male, was attacked at a party in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The Associated Press reports that he knew his attackers.

The Ohio Capital Journal reports that a family who testified against Ohio’s anti-transgender legislation has moved to New York, to avoid the political climate that they see in Ohio.

A new album entitled Transa, featuring songs from various performers, will be released on November 22 of this year. Sade has agreed to submit a song, “Young Lion,” in honour of her transgender son, Isaac. She has not released a song in six years. This story comes from Them.

Trans actresses Sam Buttery and Suzy Izzard are in the new series Kaos. It is a dark comedy based on ancient Greek mythology. They play two of the three Fates, a group who show up as non-binary entities in this show. Also in the cast are Jeff Goldblum as Zeus and Billie Piper. This story comes from PinkNews

A former teacher in Ireland has been jailed for the third time for protesting “transgender ideology” at the school where he used to teach. He was charged with trespassing. He had been fired for refusing to user the name and pronoun which transgender students identify as their own. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

Pope Francis found a receptive audience in Indonesia’s transgender Catholic community. You can read about this community in the New York Times.

UK Deed Poll Office released some statistics about transgender people changing their names. 70% did not keep the same first letter of the name that their parents gave them. 80% also changed or added a middle name. Almost 10% did not have a middle name.

Yahoo Canada repeated the CBC’s story about a camp for transgender children near Edmonton.

The existence of anti-transgender laws has limited with doctors, nurses, mental health counselors, and others can do to help transgender patients, especially minors. In Iowa, some get around these restrictions by the use of transgender doulas, a brand new category of assistants. They are not specifically mentioned in the law, but they help transgender people with personal knowledge of transitioning and with a knowledge of available resources. This story comes from Them.

Former President Donald Trump said this week that schools decide which students should be “operations,” referring to gender confirmation surgeries. He implied that they did so without consulting the parents, and said that years later, many of these children “wonder what happened.” All of this is untrue.
