Pennsylvania’s governor vows to veto any such laws in his state. The governor of Louisiana has said he will veto a bill restricting healthcare for transgender minors. Suicide prevention groups have come out with a request for lawmakers to stop interfering with trans healthcare for minors. The AMA has urged governors to veto these bills. A professor from the University of Kansa writes about why the GOP has picked trans people as an issue requiring legislation. Red state Republican legislatures are introducing a wave of anti-transgender bills. Restroom bans, sports bans, and banning medical treatment for trans kids—while polls show that these restrictive bills are not popular with the majority of our citizens. Meanwhile more trans women of color are victims. Legislation that’s good news comes from Maryland where one bill makes name changes easier and another bans the gay or trans panic legal defense. Republicans in the Senate treat the Equality Act as if it’s a personal attack on them. Meanwhile more violence against trans women of color occurs. Two Republicans vote with Democrats to advance the nomination of Dr. Rachel Levine as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services. More than 500 college athletes sign a letter asking the NCAA to not hold events in states that ban participation by trans women in women’s athletics. New Jersey passes a law banning discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation. The story of Liz Carmichael and her three-wheeled car connects in an unexpected way to Fox News evening host Tucker Carlson. Pop star Halsey declares the pronouns “she/they”.
