President Joe Biden in a speech to Congress said, “To all the transgender Americans watching at home–especially the young people who are so brave–I want you to know that your president has your back.” Meanwhile more states pass laws against transgender people’s interests. Pennsylvania’s governor vows to veto any such laws in his state. The governor of Louisiana has said he will veto a bill restricting healthcare for transgender minors. Suicide prevention groups have come out with a request for lawmakers to stop interfering with trans healthcare for minors. The AMA has urged governors to veto these bills. Restroom bans, sports bans, and banning medical treatment for trans kids—while polls show that these restrictive bills are not popular with the majority of our citizens. Meanwhile more trans women of color are victims. Legislation that’s good news comes from Maryland where one bill makes name changes easier and another bans the gay or trans panic legal defense. Sports Illustrated’s Swim Suit issue features a trans woman for the first time. Another trans woman has become the face of Chanel Beauty in its summer ad campaign. Republicans in the Senate treat the Equality Act as if it’s a personal attack on them. Meanwhile more violence against trans women of color occurs. Two Republicans vote with Democrats to advance the nomination of Dr. Rachel Levine as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services. Trans actress Patti Harrison stars in a film with Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock. Disclosure is snubbed by the Oscars. A trans woman wins the Miss Silver State Pageant USA. The President of the United States also is working to protect everyone’s rights, and the majority of the public supports transgender rights but in some areas they are less certain. States continue to introduce and pass legislation restricting transgender rights. More than 500 college athletes sign a letter asking the NCAA to not hold events in states that ban participation by trans women in women’s athletics. New Jersey passes a law banning discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation. The story of Liz Carmichael and her three-wheeled car connects in an unexpected way to Fox News evening host Tucker Carlson. Pop star Halsey declares the pronouns “she/they”. Demi Lovato says they are too queer to date a cisgender man. K-Pop singer Harisu gets attacked on social media and fights back. North Dakota bans trans athletes from school sports. A judge in Alabama rules that trans people don’t need to provide proof of affirmation surgery to change their legal gender. A photo purporting to be a trans woman participating in the riot at the Capital proves to be fake. A trans woman power lifter is suing USA Powerlifting over regulations that keep her from competing. Two of the contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race helped get out the vote in Georgia. Trans people are being studied so much that they are getting research fatigue. The New Jersey Supreme Court says name changes don’t have to be advertised in legal papers. Trans people in the military are excited about Joe Biden’s promise to reverse the trans ban. An arrest is made in the murder of a trans woman in Virginia. 17 states move to block treatments for transgender care. There’s a modeling agency just for trans models. A study shows that after a year on hormones trans women are better at some exercises. Bill and Ted Face the Music is one of the best LGBTQ+ films of the year. SCOTUS refuses to hear a case about schools accepting student’s gender identities. President Elect Biden is expected to lift the trans military ban after he is sworn in. A Trump supporting drag performer gets harassed by Trump supporters at the D.C. rally. Violence against trans women continues. NYC’s loitering law may be rescinded and no longer used to harass trans women. Michigan’s anti-discrimination policy does not cover sexual orientation but does cover gender identity. Cher admits she was upset when her daughter came out as a trans man. The first transgender character to appear on network TV was George Jefferson’s Navy buddy who transitioned in The Jeffersons. Time for all the transgender news! It’s The Week In Trans! Election Day saw trans women winning seats in state legislatures, most historic was Sarah McBride who is the first trans woman to be elected to a state Senate in Delaware. One representative lost her reelection bid. Joe Biden is our President Elect and he has promised to reverse the executive orders that denied many trans people their rights for the past four years. A transgender Republican woman came out in support of a Democratic Party candidate for the House of Representatives. Numbers show that somehow, with all his actions against LGBTQ people’s rights, Donald Trump picked up more votes from that community. Apple releases a new iPhone OS and it includes new emojis of the transgender flag and the transgender symbol. Trans and non-binary celebs celebrated Halloween with online photos of their fab Halloween costumes. Envy Peru wins Drag Race Holland. The Loki TV series on Disney+ will see Loki changing genders like he did in the myths. A Bollywood director has made a new version of an earlier film he made and he keeps the same plot which features a crossdressing serial killer. That’s just a taste of the news!
