A bill in Iowa aimed at removing protections from discrimination on the basis of gender identity dies in committee. The Biden administration has asked the Supreme Court to rule on the question of whether state bans on gender-affirming care are constitutional. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals refused to put a hold on an injunction on Idaho’s law banning gender-affirming care for minors. The documentary, Will & Harper had its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, after which, it was purchased by Netflix. Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed an anti-trans restroom and locker room bill into law. The Texas Supreme Court held a hearing on the legality of that state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. Alberta is the first Canadian province to ban gender-affirming surgery for minors. There is a growing market for wedding attire that is gender neutral. Colorado will soon have a prison just for transgender women. Some Anglo-Saxon warriors during the Dark Ages may have been trans men. There’s all that and more waiting for you in Trans News Now!

The Ohio legislature overturns the governor’s veto of their anti-trans legislation. Sixty eight families with trans kids leave the state. Missouri legislators require students to use the restroom that matches their “biological sex”. Iowa legislators explore removing protections for discrimination over gender identity. Lia Thomas begins a legal challenge to restrictions placed on transgender swimmers. Transgender veterans are suing the VA because it has not covered gender-affirming care. Thanks to Ron DeSantis prisoners in Florida will not be able to get gender-affirming care in prison. The Biden administration calls for a $700,000 grant to create sex education material which includes transgender males. A study suggests that less than one percent of those who have gender surgery experience regret. One of the trans women who was denied a place on the ballot because she didn’t list her deadname may be included after all. The National Center for Transgender Equality and the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund will merge this summer. More than 500 bills were introduced last year which attacked LGBTQ rights, many of which were specifically aimed at the rights of transgender people. The South Carolina state House of Representatives has approved a ban on gender-affirming care for minors. The Missouri state legislature debated eight anti-transgender bills in one day. The Ohio governor’s proposed rules affect transgender adults as well as minors. Canada’s Drag Race crowned Venus, the first time a First Nations drag queen has won a Drag Race series. The Maine legislature is working to make the state more of a safe haven for families with transgender children. A colonel is the U.S. Space Force is a trans woman. Opponents of transgender freedom continue to put forth laws that seek to restrict transgender rights. Some states that have already passed anti-trans laws have introduced further anti-trans laws to double down on oppression. In good news a Black transgender woman is the executive director of the Theatre Offensive, one of the nation’s oldest and most decorated queer hubs of performing arts. Gabbi Tuft will be the Saturday gala speaker at The Keystone Conference. Louisiana families with trans children file suit to prevent that state’s ban on gender-affirming medical care from going into effect. Another transgender woman was refused a spot on the ballot for the Ohio state legislature because she did not list her deadname on her nominating petitions. In Oklahoma, the only way a transgender student can get the gender marker changed on their permanent record is to get a court order. RuPaul’s Drag Race is back on MTV, and it is attracting more viewers than ever before. A short film titled An Avocado Pit that was written and directed by a trans man, starring a trans woman is on track to get an Academy Award. A trans woman candidate for the Ohio legislature is disqualified because she failed to put her dead name on her nominating petition. Another trans woman challenges an incumbent Republican representative for her seat. Conservative legislatures have already filed or pre-filed 125 anti-transgender bills. A bill in Florida would require proof of “biological sex” before citizens could get a driver’s license or state ID card. Last week Governor Mike DeWine won praise from the trans community for vetoing an anti-trans bill. This week we take back our approval since DeWine has issued an executive order banning gender-affirming surgery for minors. A trans woman was arrested for DUI in 2021 and given a urine test. The results came back after four months and in that time the woman was fired from two jobs. The test results showed no sign of drugs or alcohol. Guess who is suing the city. Starting on January 1 major retailers in California must have a gender-neutral toy section. Texas Drag queen Brigitte Bandit gets a special gift from Dolly Parton. Boxing USA has a new guideline that requires transgender women to submit proof they have had gender reassignment surgery. Dave Chappelle keeps punching down on trans people but his Netflix specials aren’t making any money for the streamer. Yosha Iglesias will be the first transgender woman to earn the title of “women international master” if she is confirmed by The International Chess Federation.
