The Democratic National Committee (DNC) held its Summer meeting from August 27 -29 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Since next year is a presidential election year, this meeting featured a “meet the candidates” session, as four of the announced candidates. Let’s be Frank About Barney Frank and ENDA

The Human Rights Campaign recently apologized to the transgender community for not working for a trans inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Babs Casbar Siperstein was there fighting for that inclusion in 2007 and 2010. Congressman Barney Frank told her he supported trans inclusion but did he? Babs says it seems that had, and possibly still has a problem with trans inclusion due to recent statements he has made to the press.

Time now for ENDA

Our TG politics correspondent Babs Casbar Siperstein thinks that the timing might just be right for the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. After languishing for years and years could this be the right time? Without Federal protections in employment transgendered people can be fired just for being transgendered. In 33 states TGs have no protection under the law if their employer fires them for being TG or if someone refuses to hire them for that reason. With the election of Cory Booker to the Senate Babs feels his positive voice for ENDA will tip the scales and we will see movement in the Senate.
