Today we meet Shania Twain’s tour drummer, the pretty, non-binary Elijah Wood. We learn about trans themed films in the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. There’s video for a new tune from non-binary artist Mae Krell. SAm Smith dons a gigantic red “equality” dress. Trans actress Eve Lindley gets rave reviews for her character in a new AMC series. On the twenty second day of the first month of 2018 we bring you all the trans news in The Week In Trans! Today we learn that Paris Lees talks about her inclusion in British Vogue. We have news of the Trump administration’s attempts to infringe LGBTQ rights. Last year’s Women’s March inspired a trans woman to run for city council, and she won. One third of all trans people surveyed in Britain have experienced hate crimes in the past year. Eddie Izzard lost an election for the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee. The National Health Service in Britain promised a gender clinic in Wales but so far none has appeared. A drag queen Shabbat? An Australian sex worker is convicted of spreading AIDS. The New Zealand census won’t include questions about sexual orientation and gender identity because of “silly” answers. There’s all that and much more, along with several TWIT Awards. Amendments to the Defense Authorization Act would slow the enacting of the trans military ban. Chelsea Manning was offered a visiting fellowship at Harvard till they said, “Oops. Our mistake.” Gavin Grimm is crowd funding his college expenses. Kid Rock does anti-trans raps at his shows. Danica Roem’s campaign agains “Bigot Bob” is heating up. LGBT kids had Camp Rainbow for summer fun. Eddie Izzard will run for parliament in the next general election. Britain’s ITV announces a show about a differently gendered child. It’s time for our weekly wrap up of trans news, The Week In Trans! What did we find this past week? Lots of news about health care, or lack of it. Movement to block trans health care for the armed forces was defeated. The Senate wants to eliminate health care for trans folks. A woman who fought against trans protections in her state is now fighting to keep them in place. The woman who sued Planet Fitness in 2015 over a trans woman’s presence is still suing. Congress has other anti-trans bills it’s working on. Caitlyn Jenner may try to oppose them by running for the Senate. A trans woman author is running for the House.
