Out & About — Makeovers and the Parliament House
Hey Ladies, it’s Camille. I know it’s been awhile but I’ve been a very busy girl. I’ve just moved from Tampa to Orlando, tried to settle in and start two new jobs, all in the same month. Whew, I’m exhausted just writing about it. I promise to be more regular with the reports and pix. Anyway, let’s get to the Out and About Report.
This month, I decided to tag on to a MAC Fashion Forward Event at my favorite makeup counter and invite all my friends for a makeover. Makeovers are absolutely wonderful if you’ve never done it! I scheduled are Meetup to begin at 3 p.m. so I showed up at two fully dressed with no makeup on. I, of course, did not take any pictures of that due to the graphic, horrifying nature of the subject. My favorite artist, Jamie Holycross, was there and ready to “beat my face.”
MAC’s Event was taking place in the upstairs walkway of Macy’s so everyone entering and leaving had to walk right by me — which I love because the people watching is so GREAT!
I sat down, took my wig off and Jamie worked her makeup magic on me. She has done my face at least 3 dozens times over the last several years so she could throw it from across the counter at me and still make it look wonderful.
You have no idea how many curious people stopped to talk to me while she was applying the makeup. I always smile and make eye contact with people staring at me, it breaks the barrier for them to approach me.I’m always more than happy to talk to people and answer any questions they have,
About 45 minutes later I could put my wig back on and took a few pix before the girls showed up. I scheduled myself first so I could direct the girls to the best artists and be there for support because some of the girls had never done this before. They showed up just before three, which put me into hostess mode and the makeovers began.
Over all, six girls showed up for makeovers which was pretty good due to the public nature of this part of the meetup. Around 5:30 all the girls finished up and we decided to meet for dinner at a local diner, Bananas.
Bananas is an Orlando hot spot for the LGBT community, the food is good, the atmosphere is wonderful, the waitresses are in drag and they’re open 24 hours which makes it a stopping off spot after Meetups, too. Every time I’ve been in there the crowd has been decidedly mixed so I’m sure they’re doing everything right.
After dining and chatting with our beautiful server and her friends we decided it was time for an adult beverage at the World Famous Parliament House. We arrived at around nine and it was already getting busy due to the themed night which appeared to be very popular. It was “Traila Thrash Bash” night. Thank god it was a theme and not a requirement because I just refuse to do “Traila Thrash.” The crowd was very in to it which made it fun for us too.
We met several girls who couldn’t make the makeover part of the event and moved to my favorite part of P. House, the video bar, for a drink. We mingled and I, of course, had to make my rounds to all the staff I know there.
After about an hour of mixing we went in for the 10 p.m. Drag Show. P .House has the best show in the area, with the most beautiful, talented girls. They perform two original shows every week which takes incredible vision, talent and practice. My hat’s off to the showgirls there.
So after the wonderful show we regrouped at the video bar with Vinny and Joel, a couple of my favorite bartenders. We used the video bar as a gathering point so girls can come and go but have a one location to return to. P, house is a pretty large complex with a number of rooms as well as a large outside area. Some of the girls danced, some went outside due to the great weather and some stayed put, due to the sitting, people watching and great staff.
After a wonderful night we called it quits around 2 a.m. which meant 12 hours in heels for me. So girls, definitely get out and about. Please visit and support your local venues. Remember, visibility equals acceptance and be the most interesting friend your friends have! If you’d like more info on how to schedule a Meetup in your area, how to or where go for makeovers or any other info, please email me [email protected], and you can see what my girlfriends and I have been up too or what we have coming up by visiting us on our Meetup Page.
Kisses, Camille
