Is The “Brazilian Butt Lift” Right For You? by Dr. Sherman Leis

(Bala Cynwyd, PA USA)   It is an anatomical fact that most males have narrower, less voluptuous hips and buttocks than do females.  As part of the sexual reassignment process from male to female, it is necessary to enhance the male buttocks to become more like the archetypal female form.  There are a number of ways an aesthetic surgeon can add curves to the buttocks.  At one time, buttock implant was the leading procedure for enhancement.  Today, the most requested buttock augmentation procedure for transitioning MtFs is referred to as the “Brazilian Butt Lift.”  Biologic natural females also prefer this type of procedure.

Initially popularized by female Hollywood celebrities desirous of adding tone, projection, and girth to the buttocks, the Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that has rapidly become the leading buttock enhancement surgery in the transgender community.  Some of the advantages of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, leading to its growth in popularity, are that it is:

• less invasive than implant surgery
• less complicated surgery to perform
• requires shorter recovery time
• usually provides more natural-looking attractive results

Of course, a requirement is that the individual has sufficient body fat to use for transplantation to the buttocks.

Unlike implants which are inserted into the buttock area, the Brazilian Butt Lift actually injects the patient’s own fat into the buttocks, in a far less invasive procedure.  These days, only if the patient has exceptionally low body fat, would we recommend the implant method.  One reason that The Brazilian Butt Lift works so well is because of technological advances in fat distribution that go far beyond well-known procedures like liposuction.  With the Brazilian Butt Lift, the patient’s fat is obtained, purified, and transplanted into position.  Doctors can better control the outcome by varying the depths of the sculpting injections.  The results are typically very natural looking and realistic.

Most transgender surgical candidates have many questions along the way.  This is normal.  One doesn’t want to have an impatient doctor, or worse, having to connect with someone half way around the world to answer a question or concern.   I will personally answer calls and emails from those who seek comfort and information about any of the procedures we perform at The Center.

Thanks to remarkable advances in technology, psychology, and aesthetics, together with the improving social acceptance for the transgender community, more and more people can live their dream freely instead of living in denial and frustration. More resources, physicians, and institutions are needed to support this community, which is why I created The Philadelphia Center for Transgender Surgery as a complete and comprehensive resource in the United States.  My vision is to provide an oasis where a transsexual contemplating the transition process can come for information, limited or total surgery, aesthetic services, and an environment of support and compassion.  The Center also serves as a training site for plastic surgery residents interested in transgender surgery.

Acclaimed transgender surgeon, Dr. Sherman Leis, is one of the more experienced surgeons performing this surgery in North America at The Philadelphia Center For Transgender Surgery located in suburban Philadelphia at 19 Montgomery Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA  19004.  Phone: 610-667-1888.

Oh, and for adding fat to the breast area I prefer the doughnut method. Ingestion of large quantities of doughnuts. Yum yum, bounce, bounce.

So, why doesn’t just injecting fat into breast tissue work? Or does it?
