How to Dress

We now move to another part of the male anatomy which I know gives many of us a great deal of trouble —  Waists.

Like hips, waists come in many shapes and sizes. Some of them natural and some self-inflicted. No matter, what ever will be, will be.

If one has a waist that is too round the obvious way to reduce it is exercise and diet. Both of these have their problems and neither one is a subject for these articles.

If one’s waist is not too thick a good and simple way to reduce it ( if not always the most comfortable) is the waist cincher or corset. These days there are many different types of foundation garments which can fill the role of both these items. The net effect is the same however. Shrink the waist. Work toward the proverbial hour glass figure. Foundation wear can be the lace up variety or have large proportions of elasticized material such as Spandex®, which may or may not be supported by steel ‘whale bones.’

Waist Cinchers

These are usually quite short and work in the waist area only. If they are the lace up type they can be tightened as much as the wearer wishes. In some cases they can be tightened beyond a sensible amount which can be health threatening. They can be purchased with or without garters.

Lace Up Cinchers

Some cinchers are not the lace up variety but are elasticized only. These are usually purchased  two to six  sizes smaller than the natural waist but one has to really squeeze into these for them to have any effect.

Hi-rise elasticized  panties can work for some gurls.

Non- Lace up Waist Cinchers

Corsets

These garments have the same effect as waist cinchers but they are much more substantial and more expensive. They come in an over-bust and under-bust format and they also lace up. Usually at the back. For a good effect one might require help tightening the lacing of a corset.

One Piece Garments

These Spandex® based garments can cover most of the body from the ankles to the bust. Typically they fit from the crotch to the bust. In doing so they have the added effect of squeezing the hips as well. This may or may not be a good thing depending on the individuals requirements. While garments like these do some shape reduction, they are not as effective as a lace-up cincher or corset.

Elasticized slips with removable bra straps do have some trimming effect. The added advantage of the convertible bra straps do allow the wearing of off-the-shoulder dresses and tops.

Outer Clothing

Ultimately, if the  proprietary types of garments are not suitable it comes down to clothing.

The most often recommended solution is a dress or top with an Empire Waist. This is a dress or top which is designed  so that the waist is situated above the natural waist line. It can even be placed just below the bust line. This type of garment allows the dress or top to hang loosely over he body thus disguising the bottom heavy shape or the thick waist, giving an illusion of length. Also wear patterns below the waist which draw the eye away from the stomach.

Do not wear baggy clothing it makes one look frumpy.

Examples of Empire Waist Dresses

Cross Patterned Dresses

Wearing dresses with diagonal patterns also helps. It is one of the ploys to distract the eye from the waist even though the pattern may be in the waist area.

Waist Length Tops

Tops can be an effective way to help disguise the offending waist. The top must come down to cover the waist without being too long. Again, a couple of examples are included.

Patterned or Colored Skirts

Colorful or patterned skirts are another way to help create the illusion of  slimmer waist by again drawing the eye away from the waist. See the examples below.

Peplum

Another way of cheating the eye is the Peplum. A tailoring device which creates a flare of material at the waist which gives the impression there is more hip under the dress than there actually is, and the waist is slimmer by comparison.

Finally, a dress with very bold and eye catching patterns and colors can also help deflect the eye.

The writer hopes this little article will help us gurls who are afflicted with waists that are difficult to control. Nice comments, constructive criticism and any praise is of course welcome.
