Twits Awards for the Week 6/17/24
The Federalist recommends a book called Detrans by Mary Margaret Olohan. As you will guess, the subject is indeed people who transitioned genders and then de-transitioned. The article in The Federalist paints a very untrue picture. First off, the percentage of transgender people who de-transition is quite low; the latest estimate is 2.5%. The vast majority of those who medically transition are happy in their new genders. While the article in The Federalist tries to paint the de-transitioners as victims, there is no one out trying to recruit people to the cause of de-transitioning. These people chose to begin the process of transition, as surely as they chose to stop transitioning. The Federalist also refers to Lisa Littman as if her work is authoritative, when in fact the publisher of her paper has issued a major retraction. For painting an inaccurate picture of transition, Mary Margaret Olohan and especially The Federalist get a Twit Award.
YouTube celebrity and gamer Nick Kolcheff, who goes by the name Nickmercs online, said in a YouTube video, “There’s no such thing as trans people. That’s something you created. . .Let me bring it down for you, all right? P*nis? Dude. V*gina? Girl. Done.” Intersex people do exist. Also, original genitalia is not the same thing as destiny. For oversimplification which denies reality, Nickmercs gets a Twit Award. PinkNews has this story.
We know the American College of Pediatricians is not really a group of doctors, but rather, is a political group whose members happen to be doctors. They released another statement in opposition to gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene reposted the video of their statement, along with her own statement, “I completely agree, which is why we must pass my bill, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, to END the genital mutilation of kids in America.” First off, Representative Greene focus on gender-affirming surgery, and specifically bottom surgery, even though all evidence shows that minors rarely get gender confirmation surgery in the U.S. As far as puberty blockers and HRT are concerned, the dangers Representative Greene mentions seem to not be found in real patients. Mind you, transgender people are not the only folks who get her brand of hyperbole. For promoting a fake medical group, and for making up results of medications, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene gets a Twit Award. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.
Dr. Eithan Haim, a surgeon, is under investigation for violations of HIPAA, the laws protecting the privacy of patient medical information. He released information about transgender youths receiving gender-affirming medical care. His lawyer claims, “My client is a mandatory reporter of child abuse who reported as a whistleblower to the state of Texas what he had seen in his hospital.” It is questionable whether he saw the treatment at the hospital, or whether he saw the patient records indicating the treatment. Besides that, there is the question of whether he also released this information to journalists, who certainly got the information. Since the case has not even reached the point of indictment, we will not jump to accuse any individual. Whoever released this private patient information to journalists gets a Twit Award.
