As we mentioned in the news, at the top of thee GOP’s list of priorities is trying to enshrine the idea of “biological sex” into legislation, especially as it relates to the interpretation of Title IX. If this succeeds, then it would require either new legislation to undo it, or a supreme court ruling that the legislation is unconstitutional. At the hearing for U.S. v. Skrmetti, it seems that the justices were afraid of overturning legislation which was passed by elected officials, feeling that this represents the will of the people. For trying to use legislation to bully others into losing their rights, Congressional Republicans get a TWIT. Politico has this story.
The Oxford Literary Festival has Helen Joyce, a cisgender woman who writes gender-critical essays, among a panel of LGBTQ writers. Mind you, at least one of the LGBTQ writers, Julie Bindel, is also known for gender-critical views. For arranging the panel in such a slanted way, the Oxford Literary Festival gets a TWIT. This story comes from PinkNews.
We try to ignore J.K. Rowling as she spews gender-critical nonsense, thinking it is more of the same from her, and that we shouldn’t give her additional publicity. However, this week, she tweeted, “There are no trans kids. No child is ‘born in the wrong body.’ There are only adults like you, prepared to sacrifice the health of minors to bolster your belief in an ideology that will end up wreaking mor harm than lobotomies and false memory syndrome combined.” First off, the idea that acknowledging one’s gender identity will create more harm than lobotomies and false memory syndrome combined is clearly wishful thinking, as those two things caused many, many problems. Secondly, the idea that gender-affirming medical care is harmful to the health of children has no evidence to back it up, at least according to the peer-reviewed medical studies. Thirdly, all evidence is that trans children come about their gender identities on their own, without being coached by adults. For overreacting, and for using hyperbole which makes her look like she has no idea what the boundary of reality is, J.K. Rowling gets a TWIT. Erin Reed has this story.
