Twit Awards for the Week 8/21/23
FIDE, the International Chess Federation, has announced that transgender females have “no right to participate” in women’s events until “further analysis” is conducted. Chess gives no advantage to physical strength nor to height, the two qualities typically mentioned as reasons for banning transgender women from participating as women. Are they suggesting that estrogen is a performance-enhancing drug? In fairness, this ruling has no bearing on most competitions, since most competitions do not have separate categories for males and for females. Still, for jumping on the anti-transgender bandwagon, FIDE gets a Twit Award. CNN has this story.
U.S. Representative Lauren Bobert deliberately misgendered Rachel Levine, calling her “Mr. Levine” while attacking her for visiting a gender clinic which once used the phrase, “egg producers.” For choosing a very odd and indeed factual item to object to, and for deliberate misgendering, Representative Lauren Boebert gets a Twit Award. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.
Christian Ziegler, the chair of the Florida Republican party, recently responded to criticism by saying that “55% of Democrats” supported “the actual language of the [Don’t Say Gay] law.” He never said where that statistic comes from, nor does it match any survey which LGBTQ Nation could find. Mr. Ziegler recently tweeted, “If the Florida Democrat Party wants to fix their registration woes, they should start by ending their vile support for the indoctrination, sexualization, and mutilation of our CHILDREN.” For introducing made-up statistics, projection, and hyperbole, Florida GOP Chair Christian Ziegler gets a Twit Award.
