Twit Awards for the Week 3/4/24
We mentioned in the news that X has reinstated its policy against deliberate misgendering and deadnaming of individuals. It seems that Elon Musk has already hinted that he may remove the ban again, in response to complaints from Chaya Raichik and her followers. For teasing us with the idea that he is listening to us, only to bow to the loudest voice opposing us, Elon Musk gets a Twit Award. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
A comedian named Katt Williams said on the Joe Rogan podcast that “transgenderism” comes from a demon called Baphomet. Given that no one has ever proven that there is a Baphomet, that claim is hard to verify. However, the claim that it comes from followers of Baphomet can be disproven by historic accounts dating back much farther than Baphomet, as well as many much more likely theories of what makes one transgender. For creating a theory with no evidence, which seems to be designed just to put down those he disagrees with, Katt Williams gets a Twit Award. This story comes from PinkNews.
In Kansas, a new tactic was used to limit debate on a proposed anti-transgender measure: the state Senate called for debate with notice only two days ahead. For finding a new way to try to keep opponents from lining up experts and witnesses to testify against their latest mischief, Kansas state Senator Beverly Gossage and her colleagues get a Twit Award. The Kansas Reflector has this story.
Virginia’s Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears seemingly intentionally misgendered state Senator Danica Roem on the floor of the state Senate. She referred to the legislator as “sir.” The lieutenant governor refused to apologize to state Senator Roem at first, but simply said in general, “I apologize.” Lt. Governor Earle-Sears did apologize directly to state Senator Roem after two recesses, saying that there “was no intent to offend.” For not realizing that a vague, unspecific apology was insufficient, Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears gets a Twit Award. This story comes from the Progress-Index.
As we mentioned in the news, a new bill in Missouri would not only send a teacher to jail for using a transgender student’s preferred name and pronouns, but would register that teacher as a sex offender. The lead sponsor of the bill is state Representative Jamie Ray Gragg, a freshman legislator. For taking this beyond anything that others have done, Missouri state Representative Jamie Ray Gragg gets a Twit Award. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
