Drag vocal group The Kinsey Sicks will celebrate their 30th anniversary in July. The group has been through a lot in those thirty years, surviving through changing members and cultural shifts but continuing to do what they do best, sing parody songs in drag. Thanks to Ms. Bob Davis for letting us know the group has released their 12th album—Drag Queen Story Time Gone Wild!—which features titles like Poof the Magic Drag Queen, Poor Unfortunate Trolls, Everybody Loves a Drag Queen, and Tell Me How to Get to (Sesame Seeds). Transgender actor Cassandra James joined the cast of General Hospital in June of 2018 to portray Dr. Terry Randolph. While James was featured in several storylines, in recent episodes she was not visible. Why is Dev Patel’s new movie Monkey Man called Monkey Man? Patel’s character, Kid, makes a meager living participating in an underground fight club disguised behind a gorilla mask. Kid is determined to take down the corrupt leaders who took away his childhood. In the process of enacting his revenge, in a super violent manner, he joins a group of trans and gender-non-conforming characters to fight the elites that are oppressing them. In an interview with Variety Patel said that the film is an, “. . .anthem for the underdogs, the voiceless and the marginalized”. Monkey Man is in theaters now.
Disney+ is streaming a series titled Renegade Nell featuring British trans actress Iz Hesketh. The 26-year-old gained notoriety appearing in the long running British soap Hollyoaks. In Renegade Nell she portrays Valerian, a non-binary woman in 18th-century England who is the assistant to a noblewoman. Her character is the first nonbinary character to appear in a Disney live-action series.
Cate Blanchett has created a fund for women, trans, nonbinary stories called the Proof of Concept Accelerator, which exists to produce projects about people from those backgrounds. Chloé Zhao, Emma Corrin, Eva Longoria, Greta Gerwig, Jane Campion, Janicza Bravo, Lily Gladstone and Lilly Wachowski will form the eight-person selection committee for the fund, The committee will choose eight filmmakers who will each receive $50,000 and industry mentorship to make a short film, which will be screened this fall. Global talent agency UTA has signed model and creator Emira D’Spain for representation in all areas. D’Spain became the first Black transgender woman to model for Victoria’s Secret in 2022. She has accumulated over 1 million followers across several platforms, where she shares her beauty insights, routines and Get Ready With Me videos. A Scottish comedian Richard Gadd was harassed by a middle-aged woman he meets at the pub where he works. Soon the woman was stalking him, showing up at his home, bombarding him with emails and phone calls. Eventually Gadd managed to shake her off and being a creative person he turned the whole awful experience into a play which has now been made into a Netflix series titled Baby Reindeer. In the course of the series Gadd’s character, an almost Gadd named Donny, dates a transgender woman named Teri. She is portrayed by American trans actress Nava Mau. Learn more from PinkNews.
