Yulia Alyoshina, a transgender Russian politician, has announced that they are detransitioning in compliance with a court decision. The alternative was to be sent to a “psychiatric hospital.” LGBTQ Nation has this story.

The Supreme Court agreed to take a look at the constitutionality of Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors. The argument will be held this fall. The Associated Press has this story. They point out that the Supreme Court overturned a stay on Idaho’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors, which indicates that the court thinks that such a ban is likely constitutional.

A judge in Montana has ruled that a bill in that state which defined people’s sex according to chromosomes was too vague, and therefore unconstitutional. This ruling will likely be appealed. This story comes from Erin Reed.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that at least some doctors in Florida are again providing gender-affirming medical care, following the decision of a judge that the state’s ban on such care is unconstitutional. Since the legal battle is ongoing, it is hard to be certain how long these treatments may be available.

The Texas Supreme Court ruled that the state’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors is constitutional. Mind you, all members of the Texas Supreme Court are Republicans. The Associated Press has this story.

The Ohio House of Representatives attached a provision onto the education bill which bans transgender students from using the restroom which corresponds to their gender identity. This story comes from Erin Reed.

Civil rights lawyers in Alabama have been accused of trying to influence the selection of judges in a transgender rights case that they are to argue. The hearings began this week. The Advocate has this story.

A transgender person, who had threatened police with a knife, was killed after tasers failed to stop him. This story comes from Denver 7.

A transgender inmate in Arizona, who was beaten by her cellmate, has received a $10,000 judgment. The AP has this story.

Two members of the California Assembly had to be physically restrained to keep them from coming to blows during a debate on a bill to prevent school districts from enforcing policies to notify parents if their child shows up at school in a different gender. The bill passed, on a party-line vote. and seems to be headed to the Governor. This story comes from KCRA-TV.

Michigan Advance has a story about a non-profit which connects transgender youths with mental-health professionals. The service is available in select states.

Distress, depression, and suicidal thoughts have been increasing recently. Many mental health professionals find this understandable, given the legal assault on transgender people. HealthDay has this story.

The headline on an article in The Advocate states that “Gender-affirming surgeries are mostly performed on cisgender people: ‘Bitter irony'”. In the subhead, we find that 975 of the breast-reduction surgeries on minors were performed on cisgender males who had developed noticeable breasts. 

A working group of clinicians and academics has published a review of the Cass Report. They call it “deeply flawed,” and say it should not be used for making policy. They claim that Dr. Cass and her group present “research which has significant methodological problems.” They claim that the “application of evidence-based medicine to gender-affirming care is deeply flawed” in the Cass Report. President Biden has issued a pardon to all veterans who were convicted and discharged because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Advocate has this story.
