Vance Aherns is a transgender woman who is running for the Florida state Senate. She would replace a very anti-LGBTQ state Senator who is term-limited. Watermark has a profile of her.

The principal of Monarch High School in Broward, Florida, and two of his staff have been cleared of charges of permitting a transgender student to participate on the girls’ volleyball team. All have been reinstated to the jobs from which they had been suspended. WPLG-TV has this story.

The Supreme Court refused to hear a case in which parents objected to the lenient policy of their school board towards transgender students. The appeals court had ruled that the parents did not have standing to bring this case, and the Supreme Court refused to overrule that decision. This story comes from CNN.

The Ohio Supreme Court rejected a request to overturn a ruling from a lower court, which put a hold on enforcement of a ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors. Newsweek has this story.

A transgender teacher in Florida may use her preferred pronouns, a federal judge ruled. This story comes from WMNF public radio.

The state of Illinois has passed legislation which would allow transgender people to update their out-of-state birth certificate. A judge would issue a judicial order to the person’s home state, telling them to correct the name and gender marker on the birth certificate. This story comes from Them.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed into law a ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors. South Carolina is the twenty-fifth state to sign such a ban into law. The Associated Press has this story.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has been conducting an investigation into Washington University Transgender Center in St. Louis. The Missouri Independent reports that there are concerns about him receiving un-redacted or poorly redacted medical records which may show exactly who is receiving gender-affirming medical care. Given the evidence that the attorney general is biased against transgender people, this is quite concerning.

Tavy Dior Thomas, a 17-year-old transgender girl was shot to death in Mobile, Alabama, by a man whom her family says she was dating. This story comes from The Advocate.

Michelle Henry, a 25-year-old transgender woman, was strangled and stabbed to death in San Francisco. A suspect has been charged, according to Them.

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health and the US Professional Association for Transgender Health have issued a response to the Cass review. They find, “The Cass review relies on selective and inconsistent use of evidence, and its recommendations often do not follow from the data presented in systematic reviews.” This story comes from PinkNews.

Idaho drag performer Mona Liza Million was performing at the Coeur d’Alene PRIDE event on June 11, 2022. A blogger claimed in videos and comments online that Mona Liza Million, a.k.a. Eric Posey, exposed his genitalia while dancing onstage. He had not. A jury decided the blogger defamed Mr. Posey and awarded him $1.1 million in damages. A musical in Spanish about Mexican drug wars, and featuring a transgender character played by a transgender actress, has been very positively received at the Cannes Film Festival. Emilia Perez is the name of the film, and one of the stars is Karla Sophia Gascon, a transgender actress. Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez also appear in the film. This story comes from Them.

Zaya Wade

Dwayne Wade and his transgender daughter Zaya have announced the creation of a new online community to serve transgender youth. The community is called “Translatable.” The Associated Press has this story.

LGBTQ+ staff threaten to quit the National Health Service of England after the government agency cracked down on “gender ideology.” As many as 25% of transgender employees are thinking about quitting. PinkNews has this story.

In response to the Cass review, the U.K. government has requested that Google block two pharmaceutical websites that sell hormones without a prescription. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.

The U.S. State Department has released information that ISIS may be plotting a terrorist threat against Pride events in Europe. A similar warning has come from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security regarding Pride events in the U.S. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

Fourteen Pride events in Alberta will not allow politicians from the United Conservative Party to attend. They feel it is inappropriate to allow politicians to attend Pride when they vote against transgender rights. This story comes from the Washington Blade.
