Governor Jared Polis of Colorado has signed legislation which states that his state will not limit the ability of minors to access puberty blockers and HRT, with parental consent. Yahoo News has this story from the AP.

In California, a bill which would have required schools to inform parents when their child changes gender at school has failed its committee vote. The legislation has failed. This story comes from The Los Angeles Times.

In Missouri, Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s emergency ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors has been finalized and will take effect. It will apply to most adults, according to some news reports. Also, the state House of Representatives has passed its own version of a ban on gender-affirming care for minors. We mentioned last week that the North Dakota legislature responded to a veto by Governor Dough Burgum (and a failure to override the veto) with a series of anti-transgender bills. Governor Burgum signed a bill banning transgender athletes in girls’ sports. He had vetoed such legislation in the past, saying it was not needed. This story comes from The Associated Press.

The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the religious rights of John Kluge, a teacher in Indiana, did not give him the right to use a transgender student’s deadname and to misgender the student. The Advocate has this story.

Two more court cases will be heard by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in an en banc manner, meaning that all the judges of the circuit will vote on the matter. They will take up North Carolina’s state employee health insurance and West Virginia’s Medicaid program, both of which have exclusions for gender-affirming care. Ashley Burton, a Black transgender woman who worked as a hair stylist and makeup artist, was shot to death in Atlanta. She was 37. This story comes from Them.

A transgender prisoner who was severely beaten by male cellmates in a jail in San Diego won a settlement. The Advocate has this story.

We told you of the Department of Education’s new rule which says that bans on all transgender athletes are unacceptable but some transgender athletes can be prohibited. Transgender legislators do not generally agree with the rule, according to The Advocate.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told transgender youth that they are loved, and reminded them that if the mental strain of anti-transgender legislation is getting to them, the National Crisis Hotline has a LGBTQ+ program which can help them. She reminded state legislators that transgender youth are here and that legislation will not change their gender identities. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

Nebraska state Senators Machaela Cavanaugh, John Fredrickson, and Megan Hunt have formed a new political action committee, “Don’t Legislate Hate,” which will support political candidates who take a position favoring equality. This story comes from The Advocate.

Students in Florida are planning to walk out of class on Friday, April 21, to protest recent laws which place restrictions on education. They are especially protesting the Parental Rights in Education law, better known as the Don’t Say Gay Law. The Advocate has this story.

Some people are fighting the hate coming from the right with humor. Two gay men are using A.I. to create drag versions of prominent Republicans that they call RuPublicans. Check their art work out the NBC News website. Thanks to Shelley Baker for the tip.

In Ohio, a new ballot proposal would protect abortion rights. However, anti-abortion advocates say that the proposal, if passed, would allow minors to get gender-confirmation surgery without their parents’ approval. A fact check from News 5 Cleveland says that claim is a stretch.

Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld is the incoming president of the American Medical Association. He is gay, and he is a very vocal opponent of the anti-transgender legislation which some states have been pushing. He talked to the Advocate.

Because of societal pressures, transgender and gender nonconforming youth are three times as likely to have issues with substance abuse compared to cisgender youth. LGBTQ Nation reports that there are treatment options especially for transgender and gender nonconforming people.

Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia produces the Trans Wellness Conference. The Center has announced there will be no conference in 2023. The announcement  said, “This will be a year of listening, of planning, and of gathering resources to return stronger and more vibrant than ever in 2024.” Get more information from the conference web page.

Rachel Pollack, an author and activist who created the first transgender superhero in a mass-market comic book, Doom Patrol, has died. She was 77. An obituary can be found at PinkNews.

Time magazine has released its Time 100, a list of influential people. One of them is Imara Jones, journalist and founder of TransLash Media. This caught the attention of Them.

Pedro Pascal is still speaking of how much he respects his transgender sister, Lux. The most recent example is an interview with Esquire. Out.com has this story.

Margaret Cho wants to see transgender people playing Disney princesses, princes and leads. I agree, but I also want to see transgender people in supporting roles. In an era when conservative states are trying to outlaw drag, or at least to regulate it as adults-only entertainment, San Francisco held a pro-drag protest. Gay Cities has this story.

13 countries of the European Union are suing Hungary over its 2021 law which criminalizes LGBTQ+ “propaganda.” Germany and France announced this week that they would join the suit. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.

London Trans+ Pride will return on 8 July of this year. Given the push for anti-transgender legislation, in the U.K. and worldwide, there is a need for an event like ths. PinkNews has this story.

Equality Florida has issued a travel warning for Florida, saying that it is not a good place for transgender people to visit , much less to relocate there. This story comes from The Advocate.

The Advocate has a profile of a new non-profit group which will help people who want to leave the U.S. due to the anti-transgender laws being passed.

A conservative group asked for and got permission to hold an anti-transgender event for children at the Cleveland Park Library in Washington, D.C. While the library hosted the event, they made sure that displays around the library had a very different message, a message of inclusion for transgender youth. The Advocate has this story.
