Utah has become the first state to pass and sign into law a ban on gender-affirming care for minors this year. The bill flew through the state legislature with relative ease, and was signed into law by Governor Spencer Cox. Utah is the fifth state to ban the medical or surgical treatment of gender dysphoria in minors, according to Healthline.
The West Virginia House of Delegates passed a bill to ban gender-affirming medical or surgical care for minors. That bill moves on to the state Senate next. The Human Rights Campaign announced their disagreement with the bill.
The South Dakota House of Representatives also passed a bill to ban transgender medical or surgical care for minors. The only out LGBTQ member of the state House spoke against the bill, but it passed anyway, according to The Advocate.

In Mississippi, a bill banning gender-affirming care for minors passed the state House two weeks ago. This week, that bill passed a Senate committee, which means that it can go to the full Senate for a vote. The Human Rights Campaign expressed the reasons why they disagree with this bill.

Michigan does not have a “Don’t Say Gay” bill in its legislature, but a group called the Great Schools Initiative is passing around a form which parents can sign that allegedly would allow the parents to “opt out” of their children hearing any discussion of gender identity or sexual orientation. UK Athletics wants to make it harder, if not impossible, for transgender women to compete in female sports. They want to create an “open” category, in which transgender athletes can compete.
