A judge in Montana has issued a preliminary injunction preventing the state from enforcing a law which would prevent the amendment or alteration of information on a birth certificate, specifically the sex listed. This is only a preliminary ruling, and it is likely that the state will appeal this ruling before the trial takes place, but it does indicate that this judge thinks that the state overstepped its authority when it passed this law. We reported last week that the U.S House of Representatives passed a military spending package which specifically forbids the use of these funds for gender-affirming medical care for children of military families under the age of 18. This week, the Senate passed the bill, without removing that provision. This story comes from CNN.

NCAA President Charlie Baker appeared before a Senate panel this week to discuss sports gambling. When asked by Senator Dick Durbin, he said that there were 510,000 athletes in NCAA-sanctioned sports programs, and fewer than 10 are openly transgender. A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has agreed to plead guilty to assaulting a transgender man. The civil rights charge could carry a penalty of up to ten years in prison. This story comes from KCAL-TV.

A three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found unanimously that two doctors from Texas do not have standing to sue over the Biden administration’s rule barring discrimination against transgender patients, since the doctors did not have any transgender patients whom they refused to serve. A new study suggests that transgender and gender-nonconforming patients are more likely to experience chronic pain than are cisgender patients. We mentioned recently that Squid Games cast a cisgender performer in the role of a transgender character. It turns out that creator/director Hwang Dong-hyuk tried to cast a transgender actor, but claims that, “there are close to no actors that are openly trans” in South Korea.
