In the past the Eurovision Song Contest has had drag performers win the top song. This year two queens made it to the top 28 of the semi-finals and only one has made it to the finals. Who are these lovely damsels? What countries do they represent? Who’s been eliminated and who has a chance to win it all? Oh! It’s more exciting than American Idol!

The Final of the Eurovision Song Contest for 2007 takes place tonight in Helsinki, Finland. The queen who was eliminated in the semi-finals was the lovely and talented Danish representative, Drama Queen, a.k.a. Peter Andersen. This 34 year old beauty has been performing in drag since 1997 and has released two CDs in Denmark, both in 2000. Her entry in the Eurovision Song Contest was also titled Drama Queen. Sadly this long legged lovely was beaten out in the semi-finals but you can see more of her on her website.

Still in the running is “Ukrainian Cinderella and Ukrainian dream” Verka Serduchka. This Ukrainian beauty started out hosting her own talk show in Ukraine and after interviewing many singers she decided that she too would become a singer.

Very popular throughout the portions of Europe that enjoy pierogies and dishes based on cabbage Ms. Serduchka has sold millions of CDs and performed before thousands of adoring fans. Her goal is to “amuse and grant only positive emotions to people around”. Good luck to the “mega star” as she competes to night for the top spot in the Eurovision Song Contest with Dancing Lasha Tumbai. It’s a rousing dance tune that features the accordian playing a slavic hook that gets into your head and makes you stomp your feet. And wish you had some pierogies.

You can find out more about Ms. Serduchka on her website but be careful, if you don’t have high speed Internet service it will take an eon to load. The site is well designed but very heavy on animation that takes up a ton of bandwidth. Good solid bandwidth. Like woman from Ukraine.

You can learn more about the Eurovison Song Contest and even watch it on your computer tonight (if you can load the required plugin) by visiting their website.
