Senator Tommy Tuberville recently referred to transgender people as “clearly struggling with mental illness.” He suggested bringing back mental institutions for transgender people, and arresting doctors who provide gender-affirming care to any patients. Now, Scott Stadhagen, the chair of the Republican Party in Alabama, has referred to two transgender candidates who are running in the state as “men who have mental disorders.” The American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association disagree. For thinking that they know what is a mental illness better than psychiatrists and psychologists, and for going against scientific studies with alleged common sense, Senator Tommy Tuberville and Alabama Republican Party chair Scott Stadthagen get a TWIT. South Grand Prairie High School in Texas cancelled a production of Little Shop Of Horrors because a girl was cast as Seymour, a character who is traditionally presented as a male. For taking the anti-transgender and anti-drag crusades to a new level, school officials at South Grand Prairie High School get a TWIT. This story comes from Erin In The Morning.

Republicans keep bringing up “support” for transgender people as a campaign issue. It is prominent in ads and at Republican rallies. Even former Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Dade Phelan has observed that the issue “hasn’t moved the needle” in the race for the U.S. Senate in Texas. He concludes that, “We’re just not paying attention to the issues that matter.” For not adjusting their campaign strategy when it is obvious that it is not working, Republicans get a TWIT. President Trump also keeps going back to his wild claim that schools are performing surgery on children. He now claims that in Minnesota, “Your son leaves as Jimmy and comes home in three days as Janet.” He also said, “Mutilate your children. They want to mutilate, cut your children,” in the same section of that speech. He added, “Most people don’t believe that, you know. They think it’s an exaggeration. It’s not.” For building on his flat-out lie, and for insisting to his rally that it is not a lie, President Trump gets a TWIT. This comes from LGBTQ Nation.
