President Trump referred to South Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Annie Andrews as “Annie the Tr***y Andrews.” The reference is odd, as Dr. Andrews had not expressed her views on transgender rights. She is not herself transgender, and she has since denied that she had any transgender minors as patients, and even came out against allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s and girls’ sports. For casually dropping the t-word into a political race to simply tar a Democrat, and for not doing research into the political opinions of the candidate on transgender rights, President Trump gets a TWIT. This story comes from the South Carolina Daily Gazette.

Sherrod Brown, a former Senator from Ohio who is running to reclaim a seat in the U.S. Senate, is fighting off an ad which accuses him of supporting surgery on transgender minors. The ad features Soren Aldaco, a well-publicized detransitioner. In the ad, Ms. Aldaco claims that she was “just a kid” when she got gender-confirming surgery. She was, in fact, a legal adult, and was past her eighteenth birthday when she began receiving gender-affirming medical care. For running an ad which deliberately leaves an impression which is contrary to the facts, the Senate Leadership Fund, the political action committee behind the ad, gets a TWIT. This story comes from Them.

The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals has reversed the conviction of Samuel Ward Jr. for the killing of transgender woman Paris Lee. Mr. Ward was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, but the court felt that the jury was under the impression that the victim was cisgender, not transgender. For implying that it is acceptable to murder an intimate partner when one discovers that the intimate partner is transgender, and for stating that the judge “misled” the jury by not revealing the victim’s gender identity, the three-judge panel gets a TWIT. Erin In The Morning has this story.
