We have news of the Trump administration’s attempts to infringe LGBTQ rights. Last year’s Women’s March inspired a trans woman to run for city council, and she won. One third of all trans people surveyed in Britain have experienced hate crimes in the past year. Eddie Izzard lost an election for the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee. The National Health Service in Britain promised a gender clinic in Wales but so far none has appeared. A drag queen Shabbat? An Australian sex worker is convicted of spreading AIDS. Ever since she ran into a group of crossdressed people during Mardi Gras in 1978 photographer Mariette Pathy Allen has been documenting trans people in photographs and assembling the photos into books. In 1989 her book “Transformations: Crossdressers and Those Who Love Them” featured members of Renaissance. Her latest book is “TransCuba.” Recently she was honored at Fantasia Fair with the 2014 Pioneer Award. Jan Brown visited Allen in her Manhattan home and introduces you to her.
