Your Non-Binary Genitals

I am living in a non-binary world with non-binary people. The 21st Century is becoming a place where people wish to either identify too much or never be identified at all. My mind boggles when I read articles which mention, “Bob Smith, whom police stated prefers not to be identified by a gender pronoun…”

My mind also goes haywire when I hear, “She identifies as a transgender, lesbian, who has otherkin traits of a toaster oven and ought to have some recognition for the heartbreak of no longer being a toaster oven in this life.”

It’s too little or too much. I always wanted to be labeled less, but I never wanted to be lableless (without any labels). It looks to me as if humans have really got it all wrong when it comes to either side of the coin. They’re either sprucing themselves up like a peacock with six hundred labels or they want to have so few that they resemble a beige amoeba.

I have to wonder about both camps. The people with too many labels appear insecure with being free in a universe. They cannot float down the river just being. They have to be this and that or the other. They can’t only be a person with a penis who enjoys the company of either gender, they have to be the reincarnation of a rainbow-colored unicorn from Camelot. The people with no labels seem to be angry at the universe for actually making them anything at all. How dare the universe make them black or white with a penis or a vagina or both? How dare they be forced to be more than a non-binary asexual vanilla ice cream cone.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the non-binary asexual. You are neither male or female without sexual feelings and associations. Then what are you? They tell me they are a human. But what are you? Then they get angry. They are just a human. They are only a human.

I think labels beyond “I’m a human” are important because I think they exist. There are too many labels and then there are too few! I think the fact that you have a penis or a vagina is something. I think the way our bodies have chemically come to form is something. We are all just humans, but such a wide variety. There are beautiful purple flowers and beautiful yellow flowers. I doubt the flower community pickets their garden for the right to be just a flower instead of a particular type of flower. Flowers produce certain traits, qualities, flavors, and so do people. Yet I’m living in a time where people seem to hate their unique qualities and are turning themselves beige.

Beige is not a color in this context, but a flavor. Beige is not the color of your skin but the boringness of your muted uniqueness. We are starting to ignore our unique traits in order to fit into the boxes. And it’s now more than ever because it is offered to everyone. We used to be banned from normality if we were just gay or just transgender. But now you are often welcome with those “born this way” traits so long as you present beige. Yes, Mr. Gay Man, please come join the club so long as your hair is cut neatly and you wear a suit. Please, Mrs. Transgender, sign up for the charity fundraiser as long as you are prim and proper. Normality is now offered to everyone so long as they strip away their stripes.

Of course, one of the reasons people want to be without labels is because of how they are treated. It all boils down to treatment, doesn’t it? Much like how some of us don’t want to have sex just because the organs match the attraction. We want to be loved for our minds, our bodies, and not just one specific organ. Try as you may, you will always be judged on something. We are all judges, whether we admit it or not. So, you might as well be something instead of the beige background noise of “just a human.”

    This is a great article!

The “non-binary” folks are living in a fantasy world: when 99+% of humans identify quite comfortably as male or female, then I’d say that’s pretty definitive. Not that non-bin’s shouldn’t be able to live as they choose, or call themselves what they want, but they are a tiny, but very vocal group. Non-binary is better expressed as ‘virtually non-existent’.

The other war on words and rationality is expressed by transsexuals who have taken to saying that they were “assigned” a sex at birth. As if the doctor pulled them out, flipped a coin, and said ‘yep, this one’s a girl; what’s that little thing hanging there got to do with anything?’

Even Jazz Jennings says that very thing at the beginning of her shows, “I was assigned male at birth…”. No Jazz, you had a penis and thus you were born a male. Male is a physiological word, as is female. I have no doubt at all that Jazz and others like her have feminine souls and should live a girl’s > woman’s life. But for goddess’ sake don’t pervert science, reason, and language with this irrationality.
