Booooo!! It’s October, time for the spirits to rise, the goblins and ghouls to haunt, and the retail rush to begin. These are some scary times lately with everything going on. But luckily, we have a safe space here at the Forum guarded by The Ghostbusters.

Laverne as Frank-N-Furter.

Laverne as Frank-N-Furter.

It’s almost time for the remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again starring none other than the scary talents of Laverne Cox. The Fox Network will be airing the special presentation on Thursday October 20th at 8pm.  Laverne naturally plays Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Tim Curry, the actor who played the Doctor in the original 1975 film, makes an appearance in the remake. Another noteworthy cast member is Adam Lambert of American Idol Fame, another gender-bending actor. Directed by Kenny Ortega and using the original 1975 film script written by Richard O’Brien and Jim Sharman, the TV special is a reimagining of the original movie. The two-hour event follows sweethearts JANET (Victoria Justice) and BRAD (Ryan McCartan), who stumble upon DR. FRANK-N-FURTER’s bizarre abode. Frank-N-Furter, a sexually ambiguous, flirtatious mad-scientist, is holding an annual Transylvanian science convention to showcase the birth of ROCKY HORROR – a muscle-bound specimen created solely to fulfill Frank’s desires.

Another costume from Rocky Horror.

Speaking of Laverne Cox, she recently did a photoshoot in which she was made over into iconic figures. She recreated Janet Jackson’s famous topless photo as well as Tina Turner in her Private Dancer days and Beyoncé in her All the Single Ladies video outfit. The photos are quite striking. Cox seems to have the presence and charm to embody these ladies in all of their glory. You can view the photos right here.

sade_tg_sonSade, best known for her pop hits in the 1980s such as Smooth Operator, now has a transgender child. The star’s 20-year-old daughter Mackalia ‘Ila’ Adu has officially begun transitioning from a female to a male. Although Sade lives a reclusive life, Mackalia has been very open about his desire to change genders. He posted on Instagram to let people know that he’s started taking the necessary shots, or hormone replacement therapy, to transition, saying, “Today is the first day of the rest of my life.”

Stephen Beatty

Stephen Beatty

Warren Beatty ALSO has a transgender child. Warren called his transgender son Stephen his “hero” in an emotional interview about the 24-year-old. Beatty, 79, has never spoken publicly about Stephen’s struggle with his gender identity, but opened up about his child during an interview with Vanity Fair magazine. Stephen, the child of Warren and wife Annette Bening, was born Kathlyn Elizabeth, but started transitioning when he was just 14 years old. “He’s a revolutionary, a genius, and my hero, as are all my children,” says Warren glowingly. Stephen has become a transgender activist since his transition, and appeared in a video for WeHappyTrans back in 2012, thanking his friends and peers for their support over the years. He also tweeted in December, 2014, referring to himself as a “survivor” of transphobic abuse. Stephen is the oldest of Warren and Annette’s four children.

Millarker with the director.

Millarker with the director.

A transgender child actor has made an appearance on ABC’s Modern Family. Director Ryan Case has posted on Instagram a picture of herself alongside 8-year-old Jackson Millarker, who identifies as a boy. Case writes that Millarker will play [Ed. Note: Millarker’s debut on the show had aired already] a boy named Tom, who’s a friend of Lily. Lily is the young daughter of Cam and Mitchell. The director says that Millarker is “just wonderful” and one of many reasons she loves being a part of the show. A synopsis of the episode titled A Stereotypical Day states that Cam and Mitchell overhear Lily insulting Tom and use the moment to teach her a lesson about acceptance. Modern Family continues to set the bar for LGBT acceptance, with Cam and Mitchell sharing an adopted daughter in a gay marriage. The super-popular show airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m.

About Face Theatre in Chicago will launch its 2016-17 Season with a retelling of Doug Wright’s I Am My Own Wife, the Tony, Pulitzer Prize and Lambda Literary Award-winning play. Traditionally staged as a one-person play performed by a male actor, Artistic Director Andrew Volkoff’s new take will feature transgender actress Delia Kropp and three additional actors. I Am My Own Wife is based on the fascinating true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf (born Lothar Berfelde) who, against all odds, hid from the Nazi and Communist regimes in East Berlin in plain sight dressed a woman. About Face’s new production will tell Charlotte’s story through a transgender actor, celebrating trans visibility through the life story of one of the most interesting transgender women in historical record.
