The Week In Transgenderism 10/1/12
The TG who claims finasteride made him into the woman she is today, who was recently featured on Anderson Live, is still making news this week. This time she is the subject of a deeper level interview that has her admitting she wasn’t just an all American, red blooded dude her whole life before hair restorer. She did have tendencies toward bisexuality and femininity throughout her life. However, she still claims the hair restorer kicked her over the edge. Read all about it, and her experience appearing on television, in The South Florida Gay News.
The TWIT who first verbally assaulted a TG and her boyfriend after a chance meeting in a NYC McDonald’s and ended up cutting the boyfriend with a razor, has been arrested and charged with assault and a hate crime. Read about justice getting done in The Gothamist.
A transgender support group for young people in Sussex, England was visited by the police last week. Don’t worry, the kids are all fine upstanding TG citizens and the police were there to present them with a check. When the police there confiscate criminal’s ill gotten gains they put the money into a fund called the Police Property Act Fund. The fund gave the TG group almost $500. Find out what the kids will be doing with the money in the Worthing Herald.
Lea T was walking the runway in Milan during the Milan Fashion Week. The Brazilian hottie was working for the Swiss designer Phillipp Plein and modeled fashions ranging from flowing gowns to high waisted hotpants. Read the story, see the photos of the lovely Miss T in The Daily Mail.
Kinky Boots has opened “out of town” as they say in the theater. Previews for the Cyndy Lauper musical began last week in Chicago at the Bank of America Theatre. (When you spell it with the “re” instead of “er” ya just know it’s a posh place.) The production will recreate an English shoe factory on stage by utilizing custom built treadmills that the actors and dancers push around to create the shoe making machines. Sounds complicated. If you want to learn more about the Kinky Boots musical check the story out in The Chicago Tribune. (They may make you register to read page two. It’s free but be prepared!)
There’s another show down in Sydney, Australia featuring the word “tranny” it its title and it is getting people agitated. It’s a new show that’s opening at the Sydney Opera House and it’s a comedy that parodies the Broadway hit Annie. Only the Annie character is transgendered and is played by a well known drag entertainer named Trevor — thus the name of the show is trAnnie. To some the “t” word is intolerable and to others it’s just a word. See what you think of trAnnie and read the story at samesame.com.au.
Behind the glitz and the glamor of the drag performer there isn’t always a happy go lucky guy. A Brisbane, Australia performer who worked at all the major drag clubs there and in Sydney found that the only time he was happy was when he was on stage in character as Diva. Off stage he was plagued by depression and fell into the trap of self medication with alcohol and drugs. fortunately he found a better way to deal with his depression. Read his story at qnews.com.au.
We brought you the story if the Oklahoma transwoman who was denied a name change by an Oklahoma County judge who says it’s just impossible to change you gender because the “DNA code shows God meant for them to stay male and female.” It’s a wonder to us how religious conservatives can invoke science or religion to justify themselves. Especially when they deny science in many cases. But, we digress. The ACLU has stepped up to defend Angela Rene Ingram’s right to make that name her legal name. Read all about it and view video at NewsOn6.com.
There is nothing like a dame. That’s the lyric to an old song and it’s still true today. The dames in this case are the men who play female characters in the very British institution of pantomime. Panto, as it’s called, happens every year in England leading up to Christmas. The dame is not a female impersonator. It’s important to the comedy of the pantos that the dame is recognized as a bloke in a dress. One actor who’s had surprising success in the dame roles is the 6th Doctor Who, Colin Baker. Read about panto and find out how Baker went from traveling the universe in his Tardis to treading the boards in a frock at WhatsOnStage.com.
San Francisco has a reputation as the home of a multitude of drag queens. They’re everywhere and they’re all fabulous. They’re so hot and interesting that they inspire women to dress like men who are dressing like women. OMG! Drag queens trapped in women’s bodies! It’s all too surreal. They even have a pageant for faux queens. Confused? Don’t be. Read about it and watch the video at the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s website.
Friend of TGF, David de Alba (who has a show coming up in Vegas this November), is not the only female illusionist to work The Onyx Theatre stage. Kenny Kerr, who brought legitimacy to female impersonation in 1977 when he opened his Boylesque show, had been out of the limelight for several months this year dealing with the loss of his life partner and then battling a serious illness. Kenny has returned to the stage and the show is reviewed in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Las Vegas does seem to have become the drag capital of the west. Possibly beating San Francisco in that department. In addition to the The Onyx Theatre featuring special shows from David de Alba and monthly events with Kenny Kerr, Vegas is also the home of Drink & Drag, Charlie’s Las Vegas, the Backdoor Lounge and several other venues that feature female impersonation. This time what happens in Vegas isn’t staying in Vegas. Read about the whole Las Vegas F.I. scene in the Las Vegas Weekly.
TWITs
A transgendered student at the University of Montana has gotten a restraining order against a male student she claims assaulted her sexually and then punched her after learning she was TG. The male student, from Nigeria — a country not known for it’s tolerance of LGBT people — claims that Anita Green assaulted him and that when he came to suspect she was not what he thought she was he verified his suspicions manually. Ms. Green was seen dancing with her attacker before things went wrong and the dance floor activity was reported to be erotic. Who gets the TWIT Award here? Ms. Green for getting overly sexual with a man who doesn’t know her story? The attacker for being transphobic. or the school for not just expelling him so he could be deported. Read the st0ry in The Missoulian and decide.
A rapist in England is a total TWIT. Of course being a rapist automatically makes you pond scum but this loser would put on a skirt and tights before he attacked his victims. And he most often attacked them in the women’s restroom, giving credence to the bathroom police who think that’s why we dress like ladies — so we can go in there to attack women. Maybe if he’d been able to deal with his crossdressing urges he wouldn’t have become a crossdressing rapist. Or maybe he’s just a putrid turd. The story is at ThisIsCornwall.co.uk.
Going to prison for twenty four years is no picnic. Going to prison for twenty four years in Turkey is just plain ghastly. We applaud the Turkish justice system in this case though. The British wanker they locked up murdered his lovely Russian bride when he discovered she was a transsexual. Overreact much? the murderer is a wealthy man who made a pile of money selling cell phones in the U.K. He could have paid for a divorce. Here’s hoping his 24 years in a Turkish prison are enough punishment for his crime. The story is in The Sun. They get a TWIT as well for referring to her as a “sex-swap.”
