The Moon Influences More Than the Tides
In my Christmas edition, I discussed how the New Moon coupled with the solar solstice made things very physically dark, and how that could adversely affect people. I had a realization today, that I had to double back and check.
The Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs occurred a couple days before the New Moon, with the moon being a “waning crescent” – just a very thin little bit visible. On Lunar New Year, the Monterey Park (Los Angeles) shooting occurred. The shooting at the Gilroy Garlic festival? Also a waning crescent! Sandy Hook – a waxing crescent – just after the new moon. Parkland High School – waning crescent.
You get the drift – all these shootings took place at a new moon or within a few days of it. Now, I am not an astronomer or astrologer. In Judaism, we have those who study the mazalot, which literally means fortunes, but it includes astrology. I do know this, and I mentioned it last time. The moon phase does affect the magnetic forces on Earth. This can have an impact on how people behave.
After Sandy Hook, I wrote about how we needed to address root causes of such attacks. We couldn’t rely on just gun control to fix the issue. We needed to look at what led people to do this. Likewise, we need to look at what leads people to attack and kill trans people. Last year we had the highest number of trans murders on record. At the same time we had the highest number of anti-trans bills being proposed in state legislatures ever last year.
We could attribute it to the “evil inclination” that we believe everyone has, and call it a day. But there really is a lot more to it. If people have generational trauma, that is something we need to address. Generational trauma is something I’ve been researching lately. And it goes untreated in marginalized communities because of the poor healthcare in the US, and because of racism, transphobia, etc.
We can also see the failings in the education system, that lead people to being bullied. This has been a factor in a number of shootings, but not all. And there are many other factors that could be improved on, if those in charge put in the effort. The rub is there is no desire to do that. Why? They don’t want to spend tax dollars on this, and they want to continue to oppress the marginalized communities in the country.
Clearly we can’t change the physics of what the moon does. But we can change the oppression that those in power bring down on those of us who are marginalized. And for those in our communities who have complex intersectional identities, the problems are even worse.
To our so-called leaders, I say – if you want to pursue gun control, that’s fine. I think you’re really tilting at windmills, because you cannot eliminate them, and because there are many other ways to do mass violence, but. . . PLEASE! Address the root causes of mass violence, so we don’t keep hearing about these events. Our souls can’t take it, our families can’t take it, our country can’t take it!
Peace out,
Rona
