Today The Artist D! muses on the nature of intentions, being an internet pioneer, the necessity of boring small towns, and how it’s not easy to be in the right place at the right time, even if you have the artistic chops to cut the gig. This will be the last regular contribution from The Artist D! so savor the nuance and quality of their thoughts. They are invited to return to TGF again and may do so at some point in the future when they decide they’ve been on sabbatical too long.

Suicide is a problem among members of the transgender community. Transitions that are well planned often go smoothly but now and then someone’s life seems to be on a good path, living in their preferred gender and suddenly you learn that they took their own life. If things are not going well and they are losing family, friends and their job it’s understandable that the “black dog” of depression could take them over. The Artist D last had suicidal thoughts in their teen years. Today they write their thoughts on suicide, within and outside the trans community.

The Artist D! has attended their first ever BDSM convention and with the sight of dominatrixes in head to toe latex walking their human “dogs” on leashes and the other somewhat shocking images to be seen at every turn The Artist D! finds a similarity between all conventions that celebrate life styles. And they wonder what the world would be like if the people at BDSM convention, furry conventions, and crossdresser conventions could be totally open and display their inner selves during their everyday life. Get The Artist D!’s other thoughts on the subject in “The Magic of the Gatherings.”

On behalf of a trans friend who wanted to begin transition The Artist D! began to make inquiries in her town about where to go for hormone therapy and eventual gender confirmation surgery. Believing that her city was one of the bigger, more progressive areas in the USA D expected things to proceed fairly quickly in the search for information. Apparently their expectations were too high. It seems The Artist D!’s “big city” is not as well informed about transgender issues as they thought. Which leaves D wondering what trans people in really remote small towns do for medical care.

Someone said that the only constant is constant change. If you think you’re always going to be exactly who you are you should learn the wisdom shared by The Artist D! “With age and experience comes wisdom. That is true because with age and experience comes complete and utter exhaustion regarding the things that used to be so damned important.”

The Artist D! examines the recent controversy over the tussle between anti-sexual harassment activist and author Rose McGowen and a trans woman during an appearance by McGowen at a Barnes & Noble book event. The trans woman asked McGowen a question about remarks she made on RuPaul’s podcast. At sometime during McGowen’s response things went sideways and soon the two were shouting at each other and neither one was listening. The Artist D! has listened to the shouting and within it she finds rage and pain but she can’t locate the anti-trans statements attributed to McGowen. She includes the video of the incident in this post along with her analysis.

The Artist D! sees our society as one in which predators exist with submissive types. The predators keep moving like sharks and the submissives in their innocence wonder why they keep getting hurt. At times it seems that everyone has been a victim. The amount of surprise expressed over the number of people who responded to the “MeToo” campaign proves that bad behavior is more prevalent than people imagined. But should we equate having your butt grabbed by a drunk in a bar with a celebrity raping a 13-year-old? The Artist D! thinks we have to pick the battles that need to be fought. See if you agree.

The Artist D! continues her “Tranny Queer” series with some thoughts on just why so many people, maybe all of us, are hung up about sex. She points out that when she was young she experienced more anxiety leading up to her first kiss than she does over adult to adult sexual interaction today. And what’s up with all the serial killers who were gay? Were they so messed up over sexuality that they had to go that route to get any sexual pleasure at all? We’re not mantises. Eating your sex partner like they do is wrong!

A teacher reads to her class from the Jazz Jennings’ book I Am Jazz and parents are outraged. A male student is allowed to wear dresses at school and the parents of another student remove their child from the school. If everything doesn’t comply with how people think it should be then they explode. Meanwhile the things that should create outrage are quietly ignored or swept under the rug. The Artist D! has a few words this month about the oppression of kids that comes from their parent’s expectations. And then there’s the outrage over those different colored crayons. . . .

Today The Artist D! muses on the romantic rebel and the human tendency to disagree about everything and always shun or outright hate the different people. The questions posed in this column may not be readily answered or the reason things are like they are might be right there. See what you think and decide if your bowl of cosmic stew should be served cold, or hot. Some like it hot.

Could The Artist D be a reincarnated female unicorn from the planet Zoltar? Anything is possible. An example? In Oregon and the District of Columbia you can get a driver’s license with no gender designation. You can be a neutral person. Today The Artist D discusses that from a few different angles. She asks questions ranging from why does the government need to put what’s between your legs on your driver’s license, to does a neutral sex designation make any sense? See what you conclude after reading The Artist D’s post.

The Artist D talks about understanding gender dysphoria in two ways. She/he has always felt like a gender outlaw and can present in either gender or none without being bothered by the shape of their genitals. But The Artist D had issues with body image regarding fat. No matter how thin she/he was they always saw themselves as to fat. The longing to be thin gave them some idea of the effect of gender dysphoria and that was enforced when they were around someone everyday who suffered with gender dysphoria.

The past is gone and cannot be accessed again. The future is not yet here and no one knows what it will hold. The present is all that we can affect and be aware of. The Artist D thinks that concerns over the past, the future and the will of God may be holding people back from being who they truly are. She explores that theme in today’s post “Tranny Queer, Queers in Church.”

Every positive has a negative. Every mountain is matched by a canyon. The universe is made of opposites and while many feel that the opposing sides of the universe can never ever get together the cliched saying is “opposites attract.” And that was a hit for Paula Abdul. Today The Artist D presents her take on people who always live on one side or the other. She suggests that now and then the light needs some darkness, and vice versa.

Today The Artist D looks at the price of fashion and beauty. Not how much it costs in dollars to look fabulous. She’s talking about the work you need to do in order to walk out that door drop-dead gorgeous. So many people seem to think that it’s okay to go out in flip flops and a torn t-shirt. The Artist D believes that it happened because people wanted to be “authentic.” They don’t want artifice to obscure who they really are. Then someone had to go to the supermarket in pajama pants and it’s been down hill from there.
