Passing Is Possible: Follow The Women

| Oct 10, 2016 | Reply

This is a TGF Retro Rerun from Diane Hutchinson. It originally ran back in the late ’90s. See if you can find some of the 1990s references. Diane wrote about passing tips for doing so. Cate O’Malley’s post today gives her 21st century take on passing so we decided to run Diane’s post from the 20th century. They differ, of course. Diane’s advice is still good for those who want to blend in with the other women in a store, or restaurant. And she and Cate both agree that in case you don’t pass it’s best to not let it bother you. It’s not your problem. So return with us now to those days in the late 20th century and give Diane’s Retro Rerun a read.

Understanding Freedom

| Sep 26, 2016 | Reply

There is always something that restrains people from doing whatever they want to do whenever they want to do it. But in general freedom is used in our society to mean you can do what you want if you can afford it and you’re not breaking any laws. The right wing uses “freedom” a lot but they seem to think people exercising their freedom to be themselves somehow takes their freedom away. Here is a column about freedom from our contributor Diane Hutchinson’s husband.

Go Gamer Girl, Go!

Before TGF contributor Diane Hutchinson identified as a woman she identified as a nerd. She was the kind of nerd who memorized the dialogue from every Star Trek television show and carried novelizations of the series around with her. Another big part of her nerd identity was board games. Not Monopoly or Risk though. Diane was an expert in more serious games that called for tactics and strategy. When she decided to transition she stopped gaming for six months but then returned as a girl gamer. Today she tells us how that went.

Can We Just Pee? Please?

| Feb 15, 2016 | Reply

Diane Hutchinson transitioned in 1999 and has been using the lady’s rooms in public spaces for years. She doesn’t often think about the ginned up “controversy” over trans people using the restroom that matches their gender. She just walks right in when she must. But recently she had the experience of hearing two people she knows and likes talking about the issue in a misinformed manner. Find out what she purposes as one way to attack the bills being introduced to ban trans people from the restrooms that match their gender in her opinion piece, Can We Just Pee? Please?
